A former lecturer and director of music at Keble College at Oxford University, Simon Whalley held positions with the UK institution for more than two decades. In his leadership role, he oversaw several international tours and spearheaded the creation of a trio of music albums that included a collection of songs for Advent. Simon Whalley also directed the Keble College Chapel Choir and led the professional ensemble Musica Figurata as founder and conductor.
Known for nurturing musical talent, Mr. Whalley also directed Jubilate!, a leading chamber choir in the Oxford community. Relocating to New York, Mr. Whalley next accepted a position as music director and organist with the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin. The position at the well-established midtown church involved score preparation, composition, and choir conducting.
An avid reader, Simon Whalley is drawn to Victorian authors, as well as more recent writers from Paul Auster to Julian Barnes. His favorite poets include W.H. Auden and William Dunbar, the first British Poet Laureate.
